This very old piece of walnut has been through several incarnations. It was part of an elaborate stone sculpture that weas felled by the freeze/thaw process. It took several years in the sculpture garden to gain this beautiful patina. Some pieces have to go through several stages before they settle in.
The Brazilian Rosewood has a depth of color not available anywhere else, and this is a very big piece of it. Very expensive wood. This piece was left over from a table commission. I’m all about recycling the materials I get to aquire from the commissions.
I hand-carved this granite basin many years ago, just to prove I could, and recycled it into this sculpture.
