This surround replaces one from the 1920’s. This is the original firebox, very well built, I wish I had saved a picture of the original fireplace. It was horrible.
Jack’s hand gives an idea of the scale here. Bothe the pencil and the chisel have to be sharp.
Lived in, the fireplace looks great. The opposite wall is largely glass, so the light here is terrific.
As shown here the molding is not yet carved in. The moldings are as hand carved as any of it. Nothing about stone is easy.
Texture makes such a difference. Might take a while longer, but the hand made touch might be just the thing.
