Murphy Fireplace

It’s impossible to tell from my photography, but the clients had asked if I could incorporate each of the family’s initials into the veins of the leaves. It was an interesting challenge, but they loved it, and I am sure it has been a conversation starter for a long time.

A custom, hand carved fireplace doesn’t have to break the bank, but can add a warmth and a human touch hard to match. Also note the natural cleft black slate inner surround; it is a non-reflective alternative to granite. I find a polished inner surround to be contradictory to the whole idea of a traditional stone fireplace, but the natural black slate visually expands the firebox size and provides the non-combustible surface required by code.
