Icarus Table
Cast Bronze, Georgia Marble, Glass
6' x 31" x 3'-6"
This large marble table was inspired by the client's wish for a story behind his table. Together we came up with the theme of Icarus, the Greek myth about the son of Apollo who flew too close to his father wearing the wax wings he had made in an attempt to emulate his dad, and plummeted into the ocean to drown as a result. Here we used actual leaves and vegetables from Dale's garden and after arranging them in the bowl, textured them with sculptor's wax. A real sunflower and a feather were left untextured. After a flexible rubber mold was taken of the completed arrangement and a wax reproduction of the whole affair was obtained, the wax was then cast in bronze to achieve the finished center casting. It is definitely a conversation piece.
