Old World Stone Carving
All rights reserved.

Dale Johnson (BFA, California College of Arts and Crafts, 1987) founded Old World Stone Carving in 1993, with the notion that excellent craftsmanship would find it’s way in the world. He sought out and found other talented artisans and artists, and has been working as the leader of an artistic team since then. Projects have ranged from traditional limestone fireplaces and entryways to modern furniture design, as well as original sculpture. The work of OWSC is in more than half of the states in the U.S., as well as in Bermuda. The vast majority of the work completed thus far was designed by Mr. Johnson, and much of it was carved by him. (Notable assistance has been provided by Matthew Gray Palmer, with over seven years together (www.matthewgraypalmer.com/), as well as by Jack Oliver, now with nine years and still counting.) Mr. Johnson specializes in finding the design that lies buried only within the imagination, and has helped many clients realize projects they could only vaguely describe.
Mr. Johnson has been featured on HGTV’s “Modern Masters” television show, in “Garden Design” magazine, and on local television and newspaper copy throughout the nation. He has had several gallery shows, and a high point of his career included being part of the first American Stone Sculpture Symposium in Kettering, Ohio, where he and Mr. Oliver completed a 12’ tall public sculpture, “Whack, Whack, Patty Whack”, starting with a 40,000 pound block of limestone, in only three weeks.
Old World Stone Carving is located in a rural environment near Sunbury, Ohio, where Dale lives with Wendy and their four children. Client visits are encouraged, and client participation in the design process is welcomed. Photographs taken during the carving process are regularly forwarded to each client.
Commissioning a work of either sculptural or architectural art can be a daunting process, but with the many years of experience of OWSC, we can make it much easier. Contact us if you have desires you don’t know how to get fulfilled in stone, metal, glass, or wood, and we’ll be able to help.
